The Plantronics Audio 480 is a small earphone style headset designed emulate phone booth quality conversations while you're on the go.
It uses ear buds which you stick into your ear and the microphone comes out from your left bud, with a panel to help keep the microphone in place by holding against the folds in your ear.
The boom is thin and long enough just to each the edge of your mouth or close to it, whilst also bendable so that you can adjust a comfortable distance from your mouth.
The swivel works well going folding the boom up thanks for the stabalising panel, but when pulling it back down, you may need to helping hand to hold the ear bud in.
Designed for notebooks and on the go use, the headset comes with a pouch to carry in and the cord is short so it doesn't create a mess around your notebook.
It is very light and easily tide together back into the pouch.
Using the earphone concept, the ear pieces plug into your ear to sit firmly as though you're only listening to some music.
Although it is comfortable without any weight and bars over your head or around your neck, having something stuck in your ear for a duration can give a weird feeling.
Speaking quality is excellent. Being close to your mouth, it is loud, but it is also very clear. The noise-cancelling microphone helps reduce the background noise, but doesn't eliminate them completely. This simulates the phone booth because you're inside a cover and the majority of the outside noise is blocked out or toned down.
The audio quality is also exceptional. Strong, loud, and crisp. In-ear design helps simulate the enclosure of the booth and muffles the outside noise, making them less noticable and distracting.
Unfortunately, if you plan on using this for music and games also as the product suggests as one of its uses, you best stay clear away.
Although you have powerful pitches on the high notes, when it comes to any bass and feel in the music, it is noticable on a lower volume, but weak. On a high volume, it is almost non-existant. You can hear the same beat that normally has a deep thump in it, but without the thump.
You won't get any grand experience in your gaming either due to this.
If you're looking for something simple for your voice chats without too much background distractions, then the .Audio 480 is a great asset. The other party won't have any problems hearing you while you're on a train or in a noisy bar. But when you're not chatting and want to use it to enjoy some music, it gives you the polite manner of not distracting others, but it isn't going to give you an enjoyable listen.
