Greed Corp is a turn based strategy game which utilises time as a huge element of the game; it is no longer simply moving your units, but planning ahead as each step counts.
As any turn based strategy game, the land is divided into blocks, and players take turns in battle. What drives the game forward is that harvesters, which are used to gain additional funds, will lower the land each round, and they also lower the land around them each round. This creates a need to continually move forward as eventually the block of land will crumble and fall, bringing down any surrounding crumbled land also.

With pressure aside, the game holds a very simple nature of only having a handful of different units; walker, harvester, amoury, cannon, and carrier.
Your walkers are your soldiers produced from amouries which can advance one block at a time, conquering the terrain, but can move onto any terrain you currently control within connecting blocks.
Harvesters, armouries, and cannons can be placed on any terrain you control; 1 on each block of land. Cannons will need to be supplied with ammo which can be used on the next turn to fire them within a range limit.
And carriers are one time uses which carry your troops from one block to another; they are also very costly to gain.
To attack, you need to make sure you have the same number of units, or more, attacking the occupied enemy territory. If there are no enemies, or there are only enemy structures, you only require one unit to take over, seizing control of their land and structures also. The maximum number of units per block is also 16, where 16 against 16 will equate to no units alive, but you will still have claim over the territory. This means there is no form of defense at all, even with all 16 of your units waiting; all units are destroyed, with the land taken over.

Everything sounds simple, with only a handful of units, but having no defensive capabilities, and land constantly crumbling, this forces you to think ahead, making each move count so that you don’t waste any opportunities to take more land, move to better positions, or to take over land. With a time limit on your head for each turn, this puts on the pressure during large battles.

What adds cherry to the cake though is the comical graphics and music that go along with the war. It’s no Hollywood eye candy, but the animations, effects, and style come to life and truly brings out a war in an imaginative way.
Each sound effect is perfect from the explosions, the crumbling of land, and the individual sound of units. The music style will remind you of the 1940’s comedy shows, where you have the slight fuzz, and an erratic pianist playing to the show. This old time jazz keeps the action going, but like any old record, there is an end, and the song has to be replayed again, which takes time before it starts. This helps put your mind back into the intensity of the war, until it’s giddy-up go time again when the song comes on.

Greed Corp is unique in how it is designed providing any player with a challenge. However, because it is a small game, it doesn’t contain the scale of depth you will get from other games. Because of the lack of variety, even with the time constraints, the game can feel slow. Nonetheless, if you are a casual gamer and looking for simple interface, but enough to give you a challenge, like playing chess, Greed Corp can fit well for you.
